Jonathon Gee and Dylan Fowler in concert
Pianist/singer Jonathan Gee and guitarist Dylan Fowler started playing music together many years ago in
Dylan’s legendary Celtic/Brazilian band Frevo... The Dragon Theatre are proud to be hosting their reunion
concert.
Since the Frevo days Welsh born and bred Dylan has developed an international career as a soloist
through a twenty year relationship with the prestigious German label, Acoustic Music Records. His new
CD, Ebb and Flow was released in Spring 2024, his fifth with the label.
Since becoming the first recipient of the Lord Harlech Bursary for composition and performance which
enabled him to travel and study in the USA he has performed and collaborated successfully with musicians
in India, South America, and around Europe.
In 2010 Dylan formed the Welsh trio ALAW to explore music from the Celtic music tradition in Wales.
There have been many performances over the last ten years at festivals including the largest Celtic music
festival in the world Festival Inter/Celtique in Lorient as well as BBC Proms performance and collaboration
at the 2018 Folk Proms to a capacity audience in the Royal Albert Hall.
His studio at his home in South Wales, Stiwdio Felin Fach, has recorded many acclaimed albums
including Szapora’s ground-breaking album ‘The Homeland of our Wanderings ‘
‘ An Eclectic Masterpiece “
Jonathan Gee is firstly one of the most imaginative composer-pianists operating today, with a succession of
ever-enticing bands and projects, with world-class line-ups from Europe and the US. Aside from his own
bands, which have produced 11 albums, he has also worked closely with Bobby Wellins, Claire Martin, and
Tim Whitehead, Joe Lovano, Mark Murphy and Art Farmer.
With Tony Kofi, he co-founded the Monk Liberation Front, whose legendary performances of the complete
Thelonious Monk catalogue have led to award-winning recordings. He has performed in groups comprised
of leading musicians from France, Finland and Italy, and a fantastic trio emerging from the hothouse of the
New York jazz scene which has already packed out Dizzy’s at Lincoln Centre, New York. he has been a
regular performer around Wales including many concerts at Brecon Jazz Festival and a fine evening at The
Dragon Theatre last summer. Jonathan has also been seen on The Lesley Garrett Show, and heard on
BBC’s In Tune, and Loose Ends.
Secondly as a singer he brings his unique blend of blues and contemporary jazz vocal ranging from
Ellington through Ray Charles and Sinatra to Tom Waits, James Taylor, Billy Joel and his own inimitable
songs.
So for this reunion they will be combining their Frevo sound with collaborations from their own personal
journeys from the last twenty years. Frevo was always about Dylan’s compositions, so they will be featured,
particularly the recent Welsh tradition inspired ones. Shared guitar/piano spaces from the jazz repertoire
such as Pat Metheny and songs that work in that space such as Keith Jarrett’s. Also from Jonathan’s vocal
space some bluesy standards, and some of his originals that lend themselves to this duo format. And finally
some Lennon/McCartney and something from the incredible Bulgarian singing tradition.

of Gee who has created an intimate and absorbing album." Jazz Views
